Ed Wilson is now the General Manager of Cardiff Theatrical Services LTD the internationally renowned scenery making company owned by Welsh National Opera; and is delighted to be heading up such a creative team of theatre, opera and event makers. Ed's main ambition for CTS is to grow and develop the business by putting the highest possible quality production on stage, and delivered with style, attention to detail and high quality customer service to Production Manager's and Designers....generating repeat business and a very positive word of mouth in the industry..Ed is also keen for CTS to do more installation, exhibition and event work with key clients such as the BBC.
During his first year at CTS Ed has been instrumental in securing the contract to build major new shows for ENO, Akhnaten, Sunset Boulevard, ROH, and major project for the NT, the Olivier Award winning production of Hangmen for the Royal Court (Designer Anna Fleischle), Peter Pan for Regent's Park, The Audience, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Mentalists, Constellations, Derren Brown, A Christmas Carol all in the West End. As well as these productions major new WNO shows including, The Figaro Trilogy, Puritani, and the co-production with Opera North of Kiss Me Kate. In 2016 CTS secured their first show with Chicago Lyric Opera in 8yrs Magic Flute and that is something he CTS and WNO are delighted about.
Ed joined CTS full time in early 2015 having spent the previous years as a Production Manager for ENO: He is very proud that in his last year at ENO he was the Production Manager on all of Richard Jones's award winning productions; Rodelinda, Girl of The Golden West,(2014) and the revival of WNO's production of The Meistersingers which received huge plaudits during its sell out run at the London Coliseum. Ed was also Production Manager on Pearl Fishers (2014) and Julius Ceasar (2012).
Ed is a passionate believer in vocational training in the theatre and is proud to be on the Board of the outstanding Bristol Old Vic Theatre School (BOVTS) and is equally proud to have established an apprenticeship programme at CTS who took on 3 apprentices in 2015/16, and intend to take another 2 in 2016/17.
Ed is still available to take on consultancy work on a freelance basis where his busy CTS workload allows. Ed's experience as a Production Manager and a Senior Manager in Technical Theatre and Production includes a number of significant productions now considered major works and studied extensively: MOJO (Royal Court and West End 1995/1996), Cleansed Royal Court at Duke of Yorks 1997) The Weir (Royal Court and Broadway) The Chairs (Co-production with Complicite West End and Broadway) The Street Of Crocodiles ((Lincoln Centre Festival) and more recently The Master and Margarita (Complicite 2011-13 UK and European Tour), and Billy Elliot (West End 2011-2015)
